RESOLUTION NO. �p.740/((/ .O 53 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br /> CITY OF HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE <br /> UPDATED UNIFIED SEA LEVEL RISE PROJECTION OF <br /> THE SOUTHEAST FLORIDA REGIONAL CLIMATE <br /> CHANGE COMPACT. <br /> WHEREAS, the impacts of sea level rise on the City of Hollywood will likely <br /> include both direct physical and socioeconomic impacts; and <br /> WHEREAS, global and regional sea level has already risen three inches between <br /> 1992 and 2015; and <br /> WHEREAS, to ensure public safety and protect property values in the long run, <br /> strategic policy decisions will be critical in developing guidelines to direct future and <br /> private investments to areas less vulnerable to future sea level rise impacts while <br /> working to reduce impacts in areas at risk; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 2010 the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact <br /> Steering Committee first convened a Technical Ad Hoc Work Group to develop a <br /> Unified Sea Level Rise Projection for the Southeast Florida region; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Unified Sea Level Rise Projection and Guidance Document was <br /> adopted by the Compact Counties (Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe) in <br /> 2011 with the intention to review and update projections following the release of the <br /> Fifth Assessment Report by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate <br /> Change (IPCC, 2013) and the Third National Climate Assessment by the United States <br /> Global Change Research Program (NCA, 2014); and <br /> WHEREAS, the Work Group reconvened and updated the Compact's Unified <br /> Sea Level Rise Projection based on projections and scientific literature released since <br /> 2011 and the updated document finalized in October 2015; and <br /> WHEREAS, the document represents the participation and endorsement of <br /> members of the Sea Level Rise Work Group which includes expert researchers, senior <br /> scientists, and lead engineers representing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the <br /> National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, the South Florida Water <br /> Management District, the University of Miami, Florida International University, and <br /> Florida Atlantic University; and <br /> WHEREAS, the updated projection provides short and long term sea level rise <br /> estimates of 6-10 inches by 2030, 14-26 inches by 2060, and 31 — 61 inches by 2100; <br /> and <br /> 1 <br />
